Background remover
Only changes the preview. The download is always transparent.
Pick the solid color behind the person. Only plain, evenly lit backgrounds work.
Higher removes more background, but can eat into the person.
How the cutout is made
When you drop in a photo, this tool loads a person-detection model and runs it in your browser to find the people in the picture. The background is then made transparent, and you can download the result as a PNG at the original size of the photo.
The first time you use the tool, the model — about 6 MB — is downloaded from a public CDN. Your browser caches it afterwards, so later visits start instantly. Your photo itself is never uploaded anywhere.
Good to know
- People only: the model recognizes people, not pets, products, cars, or landscapes. Photos of other subjects are not supported.
- It works best on people photos with a clear subject. Fine detail such as flyaway hair is an approximation, not a pixel-perfect mask.
- If no person is found, or the model cannot load, you can try the solid-background fallback: pick the background color and a tolerance, and every pixel close to that color becomes transparent. It suits plain, evenly lit backgrounds.
Privacy: nothing leaves your device
Your photo stays on your device at all times. It is never uploaded to a server, and there is no account or sign-up. The single exception is the model download: on first use, about 6 MB of model files are fetched from a public CDN. After that, your browser and the service worker cache them, and the tool keeps working offline.
Questions
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Your photo is processed in your browser and never leaves your device. The only thing this page downloads from the internet is the person-detection model (about 6 MB) on first use.
Why does the first run take a moment?
The first time you use the tool, it downloads the person-detection model — about 6 MB — from a public CDN. Your browser caches it afterwards, so later visits start instantly.
Can I remove the background from any photo?
No. This tool is built for people photos: the model only recognizes people, so it will not work on pets, products, cars, or landscapes. For a person against a plain, evenly lit background, the solid-background fallback can help when the model does not find anyone.
How accurate are the edges?
Good for portraits and full-body shots with a clear subject, but not pixel-perfect. Fine detail like flyaway hair is an approximation — this is not a studio-grade mask.
What do I get when I download?
A PNG with a transparent background at the original size of your photo. The preview backgrounds (checker, white, black) are only for checking the cutout — the download is always transparent.
The tool says no person was found. What now?
Make sure the photo clearly shows a person, not too small in the frame. If it still does not work, use the solid-background fallback: pick the background color, set a tolerance, and apply it. It only suits plain backgrounds.
Does it work offline?
After the first visit, yes. The model files are cached by your browser and the service worker, so later runs work without a connection.
