Passport photo cropper
The guide is a generic aid, not an official template. Head size, background and expression rules differ by country, so check the rules of the office you apply to.
For online uploads that ask for a pixel size. No print resolution is stored.
Fills any part of the frame the photo does not cover.
For upload forms with a size limit. The pixel size stays exactly as set; only the JPG quality is lowered.
How the exact size is made
You place the photo in a frame that has the same shape as your chosen size. When you download, the tool cuts exactly that part out of your original photo and scales it to the precise pixel size. Large reductions happen in halving steps, which keeps fine detail such as hair and edges smooth.
In print mode the size in millimeters or inches is turned into pixels using your resolution. A 35 × 45 mm photo at 300 dpi is 413 × 531 pixels. The resolution is also written into the file, so a print shop or layout program prints it at the right physical size instead of guessing.
Good to know
- Your photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
- This tool crops and sizes. It does not check head size, lighting, expression or background rules.
- Print sheets place photos at their exact pixel size, so nothing is resampled a second time.
- Saving removes hidden data such as location from the photo.
Before you crop: check the official rules
This tool crops and sizes your photo, but it does not check head size, lighting, expression or background rules. Before you download, check the rules of the office you are applying to, then pick the size that office asks for. A photo at the right pixel size can still be refused if it does not meet those other rules.
Questions
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The cropping happens inside your browser and your photo stays on your device.
Which size should I choose?
Use the size stated by the office or website you are applying to. The presets are common sizes, not a guarantee for any one country, so always check the official instructions.
Does it make my photo compliant?
No. It crops and resizes to the size you choose. It does not judge head position, background color, lighting or expression.
How do I meet a file size limit?
Type a maximum size in KB. The tool keeps your exact pixel size and lowers the JPG quality just enough to fit. If the limit is too small for that pixel size, it tells you the smallest file it could make.
What does the print sheet do?
It places as many copies as fit on a 4 × 6 in, 5 × 7 in or A4 sheet, in whichever orientation fits more. Print the sheet at 100% scale, with no fit-to-page option, to get the correct physical size.
Can I use a photo from my phone?
Yes. Upload the photo, then drag and zoom it inside the frame until it sits the way you want it.
What happens to the parts of my photo outside the frame?
They are cut away when the photo is cropped to the shape of the size you chose. Move or zoom the photo first so nothing important sits outside the frame.
